The Santa Clara Men's and Women's Ultimate teams are collaborating to host a tournament for students on the SCU campus. The 8-team tournament will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2013, from Noon to 5pm on Bellomy Field. This is the first time that such a tournament is being run. Its purpose is to promote the sport of ultimate to the SCU community by giving all students the opportunity to join in a fun day of ultimate. Current team members are encouraged to put together teams that consist of mostly non-club members (there is a maximum of 2 players from the men's team and 2 players from the women's team on each roster). Sign-ups for the tournament will happen by team. In order to sign up, go to the Malley front desk. Questions can be directed to Max Herrmannsfeldt at (206) 731-9490 or

On April 13-14, SCAB traveled about an hour north to Pleasanton, CA for the NorCal Section Conference Championships. The tournament had 6 bids to Southwest Regionals, and the team was seeded 9th of 12. In order to make regionals, SCAB would have to break seed by a good margin. For Saturday's pool play, the team played in five games. The first two games were against the top two seeds in the pool, Las Positas College and Stanford. SCAB lost both games, 6-11 and 5-11, respectively. In the third game, SCAB beat Nevada-Reno, 11-2. The fourth game was against Chico. SCAB fought hard but came away with loss, 8-11. The final game of the day was against Sonoma State, the team seeded directly above SCAB. In a back-and-forth battle that was close the whole way through, SCAB pulled out the 11-9 win, breaking seed. Sunday's bracket play would decide the final placement of the teams. SCAB started off the day by losing to the reigning Southwest Regional champions, Cal. This loss relegated the team to the backdoor 6th-place bracket, meaning they would have to win three consecutive games in order to make Regionals. The first of these three games saw an improved San Jose State team, which SCAB beat, 15-11. The second game was a rematch against Sonoma, which had just beaten Humboldt. This game was again very tough, but SCAB was able to win, 14-12, and advance to the game-to-go. The last game of the tournament was against Chico. SCAB played well most of the game, but Chico was a little more careful with the disc and did a better job of capitalizing on opportunities. Chico won 15-9, ending SCAB's season. Overall however, the team finished 7th, breaking seed by 2 and finishing one game from a bid to Regionals. With a new coach who will now get the whole season to improve the team, and very talented freshman and sophomore classes, the outlook is bright for next season. |

SCAB vs. #10 Florida @ TiV 2013 Other news
- SCAB has a new coach. Stick, as he is known, is a former player for elite club teams Ring of Fire (Raleigh, NC) and Chain Lightning (Atlanta, GA). He has experience playing at both Nationals and Worlds, and also used to coach at North Carolina State. He has already made a positive impact at our practices and we are very happy to welcome him aboard.
- Currently, the team is ranked #162 out of 266 college open teams. This ranking takes into account both overall record and strength of schedule.
- This weekend (9-10 Mar), our B team will compete in a tournament at San Jose State University. The A team will go over to Palo Alto to watch some of the top college teams in the country compete at the prestigious Stanford Invite tournament.

Fun facts: - This is the 6th SCCC, and the 2nd to be played on the new turf. - All games will be played on SCU's own Bellomy and Stanton Fields. Since both are turf, the tournament will happen rain or shine. - Snacks and water will be available for players. - There will be Five Ultimate gear giveaways for various accomplishments, e.g. throwing competition, good spirit. - A second bid to the same school will only be given after other schools have had ample opportunity to request their first bid. Thanks,
